What is Safeguarding?
Safeguarding means protecting children’s health, wellbeing, and human rights. It ensures that every child grows up safe, secure, and supported. For teachers, safeguarding is not just about spotting harm — it’s about creating a safe environment in school where children can learn and thrive.
Safeguarding in schools covers:
- Protecting children from abuse, neglect, and harm.
- Providing safe spaces to learn and play.
- Supporting children’s mental and physical health.
- Taking action quickly if concerns arise.
Every adult working with children has a duty to safeguard. This means noticing early signs that something might be wrong, listening carefully when a child speaks up, and reporting concerns immediately to the right person.
